Suggested theme dress for December 8th, 2007 Saturnalia:
- Anything evocative of ancient Rome or Greece;
- Do not wear your toga. Romans do not wear them for Saturnalia or other informal occasions.
- Instead, we wear a "synthesis",
a loose, flowing, colorful garment, often sheer. This is the only time the synthesis is worn outside the home. Some resemble dressing gowns. Or wrap yourself in some yards of colorful cloth.
Note that "prints" have not been invented yet. Woven cloth, and natural colors most welcome.
Think rainbow! We hope to see lots of bright, happy colors. Although day-glow hasn't been invented.
- Cross-dressing is very common during Saturnalia;
- Power inversion - master and servant changing places for the day;
- Roman legion attire, including kilts;
- Any ancient god, especially Saturn;
- Garb from any part of the Roman Empire, from the Celts to all parts of the Mediterranean;
- a pileus, the brimless felt hat of freedmen;
- Garb associated with the Winter Solstice and it's various rituals in any culture - e.g. Yule, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Christmas, Rohatsu;
- Peasant attire;
- Animal costumes;
- relaxed winter fetishwear;
- sandals, or bare feet;
- For this event, it would be nice to avoid black. If you own any non-black clothes, try to use them. White won't work so well this time either.
- No vanilla street clothes. Note strict Dress Code.
- As always, trans and CD folk can dress as they like.
