“Add spice to your play”, or “Better playing through chemistry.” What's in those vials of evil concoctions, that produce effective and diverse results.

This workshop focuses on spice play -- using intense preparations on the skin to increase sensation and induce subspace. More than a dozen “spices” are usable. We show which concoctions to choose, and how to safely combine these with other play. There are numerous ways for spice play to go badly wrong, and we’ll show how to avoid these pitfalls.

Samples provided to try during the workshop. Attendee participation encouraged but optional.

The pathways of pain, pleasure, and other sensations overlap and interact. We’ll talk about endorphins, and ways to generate them. Certain combinations of sensation produce especially interesting and intense results. We will explore a wide range of sensations beyond sting and thud. We’ll show how to make this work in your SM and Ds scenes.

The evening has four parts:
7 – 7:30 Brown Bag Munch
7:30 – 9 Presentation, Demos and Tips
9-9:45 Hands-on Workshop
9:45-10:30 Open practice, using spice play in a scene of your choice.

Some people come just for the presentation, others stay for the workshop and open practice.

You don’t need to bring anything – basic materials are supplied. You may bring your general toy bag for the open practice period.

Partners: Spice Play can be practiced alone or in pairs. Practicing on yourself is fine.

Reservations not required. Membership not required. You don't need to wear anything special. The event is open to anyone 18 years and older with a sincere, positive, personal interest in BDSM / leather / kink. All roles, genders, and orientations welcome. If you have questions you may write to edukink at yahoo dot com

Paideia (“pie DAY ah”) is a Greek word meaning “learning through play”. Paideia evenings are more than regular workshops. First we socialize. You may bring your dinner or snacks to eat during the munch period. Then we see demos. Then we do the guided hands-on workshop. You’ll mainly work in pairs learning and refining your skills. Then during the open practice period, you may integrate your new skills with other play techniques. Or you may do more practice, or watch the variety of techniques that others practice.

Angela and Iain are officers in the Society of Janus, Dungeon Monitors for SF Citadel and elsewhere, and teach BDSM classes at all levels, at many venues. Their teaching style combines humor and approachability with clarity and thorough research.

Iain has done over 1200 scenes involving spice and sensation. His doctoral research involved sensory perception, its mechanisms and extremes. He has since turned this wizardry to the dark side.

“Some Like it Hot: Spice Play” is part of the Paideia Series of monthly BDSM/leather events / playshops mainly for those of intermediate or advanced experience. The format intends to combine the best elements of hands-on workshops, a munch, a play party, and a peer workshop. More than a twenty topics are convered in this series, on both common and exotic subjects. We have developed a core study group who want to increase the depth and breadth of their play, as well as have fun together.
